False Testimony

You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor
— Exodus 20:16

How does this show us our sin and our need of Christ? God has never once lied. Not once.

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
— Numbers 23:19

Every word he has spoken is true, including and especially the word of promise and the word of hope in the gospel. We often break our word and speak and in error to others but this only proves the glorious truthfulness of God even more!

By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written, “That you may be justified in your words, and prevail when you are judged.
— Romans 3:4

Abraham decided to lie when he went to Egypt about his wife Sarah because she was beautiful, and he feared for his own life! His OWN. And his son Isaac did the same thing with Rebekah in the land of the Philistines later! This almost tragedy that was redeemed by the sovereign grace of God shows not only our sin but also the sovereign grace of God to overcome our sin. How glad are you that God does not have our record of truth-telling?

Let us look to the words of Christ which are the true words of life eternal as Peter said, “'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life!” (John 6:68)

In Prayer Today:

Ask for the virtue of truth speaking.
