The Second Commandment Today

What are the main modern day applications of the second commandment for the believer?

You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them.
— Exodus 20:4-5a

Practicing true worship, and opposing all false worship are the main thrust for today's Christians and churches. As the Westminster Larger Catechism says: “particularly prayer and thanksgiving in the name of Christ; the reading, preaching, and hearing of the word; the administration and receiving of the sacraments; church government and discipline; the ministry and maintenance thereof; religious fasting; swearing by the name of God, and vowing unto him” Wow, that is very specific and very corporate, vs. our very vague and personal notions of “worship”.

Brothers and sisters, how sweet it is when there is the pure worship of God! It is so sweet, and so pleasing to God! He is glorified, and you are never more happy and full of peace, then when you are serving the living God in a manner that is pleasing to Him, just the way He created you to!

In Prayer Today:

Pray Psalm 84:1-:  “How lovely is Your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs and even yearns for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God!”
