How does this matter of idolatrous images show us our sin, and our need of Christ? It shows our leaning to want to worship God through something we can see or touch (as they would already have done by the time Moses descended with the tablets with the golden calf). It also shows mankind’s ignorance by default of what pleases God and how He is to be worshipped.
ohn Calvin once said our hearts are factories of idols, specifically, worshipping God according to our imaginations, and not as He desires...
n what ways perhaps hav we in America today worshipped or served God in a way that was displeasing to Him because it went against His word? Not that we should always be second guessing ourselves but in Lev. 10 Nadab and Abihu, Aaron’s sons offered an alternate incense than what was prescribed and fire came out from the altar and burned them to death. That is why you need to be reading the Bible! To see what God requires of you!
We need to remember something important. While God’s Holy character never changes, His disposition toward us has changed if we are in Christ, Christ has drunk the cup of the wine of God’s fury, and there is no condemnation left—there is no double jeopardy with God. This should cause us to worship even more than OT believers who received the law from Mount Sinai!
In Prayer Today:
Let the grace of God, which covers our idolatry, lead you into spirit-filled worship today!
