Remember the Sabbath

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
— Ex. 20:8-11 (NIV)

How does this Christian Sabbath principle show us our sin and our need of Christ? It exposes two sins:

  1. A lack of prioritized balance in life concerning work and rest and worship
  2. Your love of building your own kingdom and not God’s kingdom.

How does Christ fix us from this sinful brokenness? Easy - He saves you by grace, which solves both problems!  Grace teaches you how to rest on Sunday and work hard for six days, and it teaches you to rest from your own works and your own efforts in life to worship and get ready for heavenly existence.

In Prayer Today:

Praise God for the great blessing of the Shabbat (Sabbath) principle: one day in seven to rest and worship.
