God's Name in Vain

You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
— Exodus 20:7 (ESV)

How does this command show us our sin and our need of Christ? It shows that our mission in life is off when we pursue the glory of our own names over the NAME, which is above every name (CHRIST). It also shows us how flippant we are in regards to our vows and worship of Almighty God in America today.

Even though we dishonor his name, it is for Christ's name’s sake that he forgives and heals! Jesus is the name at which every knee will bow one day, let us look to him not only to forgive our inconsistent record in honoring his name, but also look to the power of the name of Christ to change this broken world from blasphemers, to those who bless His name...like Paul! 1 Tim 1:13 “Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.  Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.” Blasphemer to one who blesses God’s name--that is the right move.

In Prayer Today:

Extol the glorious name of Christ, by which we are saved!
