The Garden of Eden - Genesis 2:10-14

A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers. The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush. And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
— Genesis 2:10-14

The Garden of Eden was a real place. Genesis is not relating a series of mythological "ideas" or "poems."  This is history.  You can easily look at a map and pick out a number of spots that would be good candidates for the Garden of Eden right in between these four rivers which are in Asia Minor. Iraq, Iran, Syria, Turkey, etc. - the Middle East. This area is known as the fertile crescent, pertaining to the green caused by the rivers, but probably today it is much less fertile than in early Mesopotamian times.

But really, we shouldn't be pining to try and find the Garden of Eden and the tree of life, because that is not "where it's at" when it comes to eternal life in the times since the fall.  Now we have life in Christ.  God is preparing for us a "Garden" in the New Heavens and New Earth which will far surpass the beauty and peace of the Garden of Eden. Will you be there?

Life Application Questions:

Life is but a fleeting breath and then it is over, yet what we do in this life will determine where we will spend eternity...have you "closed" with Christ? Is your soul safely on board the redeemer's vessel which is sailing into the next life?

If this life is a breath and heaven forever, how then ought we to live as Christians in light of this?

Prayer Helps: Praise the eternal God for his ability to create beautiful places for his children.
