6 Deeds of Darkness

But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them.
— Ephesians 5:3-7

When Paul paints the picture of the new standards of morality for the New Testament Christian (which was really simply a continuation of the moral law of the OT believer), this is not something that we can ignore. He has already set the stage for Christian Holiness which is rooted in the work of Christ in the Gospel, so we know where the source and power for this holiness comes from. But it is non-negotiable.

This is the new you. If you are a genuine believer, this is your destiny, whether you like it or not! Some who claim the name of Christian show themselves not to be Christians because of a lifestyle and identity that is rooted in love for their sin and daily practice of that sin without remorse or repentance. Do not deceive yourself in that respect. But for the genuine Christian, this new life that we strive to live in fully is in fact the most joyful way to live! Some Christians today view morality as optional, failing to realize that Holiness is actually the happiest way of life for the Christ-follower! Live in the new way of life by the power of Christ toda.

In Prayer Today:
