Gifts of Grace that Lead to Growth

Do you like to receive gifts?  Well, Christ loves to give them!  There are so many gifts, but one of the main gifts he has given the church is people who inspire you to grow closer to Christ.  Christ, the giver of gifts, is the source of this grace!

But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.” (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)
— Ephesians. 4:7-10

Remember grace means "favorable disposition" (the smile of God) but also the gifts of that favor (graces). The quote from Psalm 68 (reflecting the kingly practice of receiving and then distributing gifts among the conquered) emphasizes the unilateral nature of our initial “capture” into his gracious kingdom, but then invites a response to live in this kingdom willingly.

You are always enthralled, dare I say it, enslaved to something, whether it be the cruel prince of the air, or the love of Christ.

y faith you are now the captives of Christ and many gifts await, especially the gift of people and leaders in the church who will inspire you to walk closer to Christ.  Let's build each other up.

In Prayer Today:

Praise God for the many gifts of grace, including people who inspire us to draw closer to Christ.
