4 Sins that Lead to Destruction
One or two sins can be survived but when we stab ourselves so many times with various sins (like a small knife), we multiply the danger and jeopardy of our situation. It is one thing if you took alcohol or a prescription pain pill. But if you got drunk, then took pain pills, hashish brownies and and and a shot of meth on top, you’re a dead man, or a dead lady. Why? Because they multiply each other. This chapter represents the sad outworking of David’s sins upon his own family. The difference is that David repents whereas his sons Amnon and Absolom never repent. Amnon’s sins multiply until he self-destructs in ruin and shame.
1st Sin: Lust
Lev 18:9 prevented the act as immoral. But the burning led to action eventually. When you leave sin unchecked, it will start a fire in your life. If lust is not dealt with it will become a fire in your life that will burn down everything dear to you. Jesus was tempted as a man with natural temptations, yet he was without sin. His death is the forgiveness for the shame of sexual sin, (ie David) and is the potential motivator to change your affections from lust to love. Lust only wants to use peopl, which degrades them, love cares for people to lift them up...and we have this power through Christ and his spirit, when we live a life of repentance.
In Prayer Today:
Ask the God of grace to kill the sin of lust in your life wherever it may be found and whatever it may be directed at.
