4 Eyewitnesses of Jesus’ Birth: Simeon

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
— 2 Peter 1:16

Let’s talk about another eyewitness to Jesus’ birth. Simeon is one of the least appreciated bible characters but is viewed as a righteous and godly man, who was filled with the Holy Spirit even before pentecost! Here was one man (probably a priest) who unlike the pharisees and sadducees actually anticipated and recognized the coming of the messiah! This brings up an issue today with these witnesses which is that unless the Holy Spirit opens your heart and your eyes you will not listen to these witnesses!

oday when we talk about Simeon we want to hone in on this one aspect of his life: the filling of the Holy Spirit.

When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.” Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required.
— Luke 2:22-27

The Spirit was ON him, I take this to mean the filling of the Spirit.  That is step 1.  The Spirit was REVEALING things to Him, which for us means the Spirit opening our eyes to the WORD and its application in our lives.  That is step

But that is not even enough, we must go one step further.  It says the Spirit MOVED him to go to the temple. It is possible you can know you should do something and not do it....you must also be MOVED by the Spirit!

Let the Spirit be upon you, reveal the truth of Scripture to you, and move you today!

In Prayer Today:

Praise God that we are not following cleverly devised myths, but spiritual truth based on well verified historical reality!
