When Will We Ever Learn?

When Will We Ever Learn To Simply Receive God's Grace?

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
— Ephesians 2:8-10

Salvation is a result of grace not works.

f the question is “where did salvation come from and how was it accomplished?” It was from GRACE, an unmerited and favorable disposition! Your works play ZERO role in the accomplishment of your salvation and your works play ZERO role in receiving salvation! Jesus has done it all, he s accomplished it fully…”it is finished!" f you are a believer, then you must realize that sometimes you forget this! ne of the main challenges each day is to wake up and believe the gospel! You must preach it or get it preached to you everyday, because you keep forgetting God’s grace!

Listen to Luther: “The fatuous idea that a person can be holy by himself denies God the pleasure of saving sinners. God must therefore first take the sledge-hammer of the Law in His fists and smash the beast of self-righteousness and its brood of self-confidence, self wisdom, and self-help. When the conscience has been thoroughly frightened by the Law it welcomes the Gospel of grace with its message of a Savior Who came-not to break the bruised reed nor to quench the smoking flax-but to preach glad tidings to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted, and to grant forgiveness of sins to all the captives.”

Faith is the Key Instrument that God uses to connect us to his salvation by grace.

he proper and biblical formula we see in this passage is that we have been saved BY grace, THROUGH faith, and FOR good work! must use the proper prepositions in order to have the proper perspective and theology on the matter! Now what is saving faith but the assurance of the unseen promises of the gospel, and total trust in the person of Jesus as savior and king! ost of the problems I encounter in the Christian life for myself and for others, stem from believers not truly believing the gospel! Are you really believing all of the good promises of what God has spoken to you? Are you abiding in those things daily? Jesus said you must abide in Him and in His Word! One of my favorite refrains from the book of Joshu s 1:45 “Not one of all the LORD's good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” Do you really believe that? That not one of the Lord’s good promises will fail? That everyone is going to come true?

Works are a result of salvatio (not vice versa).

efore you understand anything about good works, you have to understand one important thing: you are a good work. You are his good workmanship in Christ. But guess what, batteries included in this gift! You are going to go somewhere, you are not going to be able to stop going in good works! But this is the result of salvation, not the cause of salvation! The gospel produces good works, because these are a necessary outcome of Christ’s work.

We are saved by grace, through faith, for good works! Simple yet beautiful!
