Take Heart

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
— John 16:33

Jesus said these words “take heart” when it seemed like all was about to be lost. It seemed to the disciples that that plan had failed when they truly realized that Jesus was heading toward his death. They could not see a way forward. But as we all know, their knowledge was limited and their faith was weak.

You have the same problem. Your knowledge of the future is limited. Your faith is weak. And perhaps you seem to be facing circumstances that seem like a concrete wall that there is no way through. But there is a way over. Even as David said in 2 Sam. 22:30 - “With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.“ Ministry meets the same challenges. How are we ever going to turn a wicked and corrupt generation’s heart to God? We can’t. God can. So we restart the engine by praying. Prayer changes our hearts so that we actually feel love again and repent of our callousness and we do love. Then we believe the truth (for ourselves first) and then we start preaching to others. Christianity is simple, but it is not easy. There are some for whom the cares of this world and the fires of persecution will cause to stumble. We should expect that. We have been told about that in advance. But we do not lose heart. There are times when you get knocked down. You do not lose heart. You reach over, pick up your sword and you head back into the battle by grace alone. He is your strength. He is your shield. God is your Rock and your salvation...of whom shall we be afraid?

In Prayer Today:

Recommit your life to Jesus Christ, as a soldier in his army.
