True Riches

For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
— Rev. 3:17

What are true riches? Jesus seems to think true wealth is something He gives rather than what you earn from your employment. Gold, clothes, medicine that are from the Son of God are riches that really help spiritually and are just what you really need. We have already said that the opposite of getting lost in consumerism this Christmas is to come to cherish the Gift of All Gifts, which is Jesus. He is the best gift. But together with Him, God the Father has freely given us all things we need! Even money. We must learn to cherish every earthly and heavenly blessing so that it results in more praise and worship to God and enjoyment of Him.

Jesus is reproving you now so that you might repent and be more zealous! We could think we are rich but actually be really poor, compared to an elderly lady in Africa who walks to her mud and stick church a mile away to praise and worship everyday, even though she has little materially. Think about it seriously, what is true happiness? Does stuff really make you that happy? No, it doesn't, it only facilitates the other and true blessings we enjoy such as family, faith, the good, the true, and the beautiful. Let us seek after true riches this Christmas season!

In Prayer Today:

Ask God to reveal to you the truly valuable things worth pursuing!
