Jesus is Better Than Family

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
— Matthew 10:34

Now this doesn’t sound like a Christmas message right? Whatever happened to peace on earth, good will to men? But Jesus is trying to teach us that while His coming brings us peace with God and the potential for peace on earth, it will produce violence and division...and in what way?

For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.
— Matthew 10:35-36

Families are split when someone becomes a Christian, why? Because this is an incredibly radical thing that takes over someone’s life completely! Your own family could experience more conflict because of your Christianity, and you need to be prepared for that!

Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
— Matthew 10:37

Jesus is better than family. Period. He doesn’t say not to love, but not to love more...

And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
— Matthew 10:38

We love the cross of Jesus, but we hate our own cross, but the self-denial needed for the life of discipleship flows out of the cross of is unedited but always implemented!

Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
— Matthew 10:39

And here my friends, is the gospel formula, this is the answer, when you surrender your life to Jesus, the good the bad and the ugly, and you lose yourself and hand control and all hope to him...  then you find it all, eternal salvation, love, purpose, and everything you need daily!
