The Gift of All Gifts

14 “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation.

15 “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. 17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.
— Revelation 3:14-18

What are you hoping to get for Christmas this year? Maybe you've given up on needing or wanting anything. But you shouldn't, because the original Christmas gift is still the best gift that you need! Jesus Himself is the gift of all gifts. Since we know Jesus and His coming (advent) to earth is the most important point of Christmas, we will look at a number of things together in the coming weeks that Jesus is "better than." Jesus is better than church, Jesus is better than consumerism, Jesus is better than Religiosity, Jesus is better than Family...and why do I pick these topics? Is it because I am against church or family? No, it is because these tend to be the acceptable idols that we actually substitute for Jesus himself during the Christmas season, let's be real. Now Jesus says to the church in Laodicea that they are neither hot nor cold, which is a good description of some churches and the believers in them in America. Now what is the missing ingredient here? Is it...better music?....better preaching?...better-looking parking lot attendants? No, it is Jesus. Because church without Jesus means nothing. We can think that we can see but be blind, think we are rich but be poor, etc... But if we get spit out for our lukewarmness, then you might as well stop going to church. But is that what Jesus wants? No, he wants you to repent, and then to come to him for spiritual gold, clothing, and eye-salve...it's all there waiting for you in Him. This Christmas season worship at the footstool of Christ, and cast those acceptable idols aside, that you might once again enjoy the original Christmas gift, the gift of all gifts, the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Prayer Today:

Seek the Lord while He may be found and delight in Him above all things...
