21 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” 5 Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, 6 “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.”
A life devoted to God is much more beautiful than a building devoted to God! Jesus saw what no one else did, this woman’s sacrificial gift! This is truly a beautiful life. What would she eat that week, now that she had given her money that was to be used for bread? God would surely take care of her just like He did with the widow in 1 Kings 17 whose flour and oil never quite ran out. Big beautiful temples and church buildings impress us, but God wants a life devoted to Him, not a building!
If we meet this woman in heaven and she asks us what we gave, would we make her blush by saying “my Sunday two hours”? Let us put it all in even today for the Lord, and when we have placed our lives in His hands, we know that that is the most secure place we could be!
In prayer today…
Praise God that He will care for us when we are devoted to Him.
